National contribution to the development of the LCG Computing Grid for Elementary Particle Physics (CONDEGRID)
Contract: CERN 12 / 03.01.2022 |
Duration: Jan. 2020 - Sept. 2024 (33 months) |
CONDEGRID is the support project for the participation of the Romanian Federation RO-LCG to the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) collaboration, in the framework of the National Plan for Research and Innovation
- III, module 5/5.2/CERN-RO. The project is funded by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization.
The main objective of the LHC Computing Grid project (LCG) is to develop and maintain the distributed computing infrastructure that is required for the storage, processing and analysis of the data produced by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.
The WLCG collaboration was initiated by CERN in 2005, with the aim of the global coordination of the entities participating in the LHC Grid.
Romania has joined WLCG in 2006, committing itself to contribute to the LHC Computing Grid with resources and personnel provided by 5 institutions which are grouped in the Romanian Tier-2 Federation RO-LCG.
The strategic objective of the project is to sustain the provision of high quality services of processing, storage, simulation and analysis of data for the distributed computing support of the ALICE, ATLAS and LHCb experiments during the Run 3 stage of the LHC (2022-2025).
